Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
The Prince’s Trust addresses this by giving practical and financial support to the young people who need it most. The trust helps develop key skills, confidence and motivation, enabling young people to move into work, education or training.
The Prince’s Trust runs programmes that encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves – helping them build the life they choose rather than the one they’ve ended up with.
The Prince’s Trust and the Baird Group join forces to get young people into jobs.
We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with the Prince’s Trust, the UK’s leading youth Charity.
Time after time, the young people who come to The Prince’s Trust for help have no confidence. They think that no one cares what happens to them, so they in turn end up not caring. The Prince’s Trust’s experience demonstrates that all these young people need is someone who believes in them – a helping hand and a chance.
1 in 6 young people grow up in a home without any income from work. This can really affect a young person’s aspirations if they’ve never seen anyone else work, and they can sometimes see a decent job as something unachievable. The Prince’s Trust exists to give these young people the opportunity to overcome their barriers. The fantastic fact is that 80% of young people who go on a Prince’s Trust programme end up getting a job, going back to school, into training or volunteering, and most of all they often end up helping others.
We have joined retailers such as Starbucks, ASOS.com and T.M Lewin, to name a few, to become a member of the Retail Leadership Group, which is chaired by Jeff Banks CBE. The Retail Leadership Group gives the retail sector the opportunity to directly impact on the lives of these young people and their communities; often helping to transform both. As the UK’s largest private sector employer, retail can offer young people a future. Through the provision of work placements, pre-employment training or practical advice to young people, retailers can provide the support to help young people move forward with their lives. We will be doing exactly that by offering two week work placements to Prince’s Trust young people from across the UK. By working together we can continue to help more young people build a better future for themselves, their families and the communities in which they live.
“I’d like to say thank you to the Baird Group and your employees for your supportfor The Prince’s Trust, helping young people to move into work, education or training. Together we can make the most enormous difference to the lives of young people across the UK.” Martina Milburn Chief Executive, The Prince’s Trust.
